What is an eye surgery referral?

A visit to the optometrist will include a comprehensive eye examination.  Optometrists examine the eyes to detect both vision and eye health problems. Most eye conditions can be treated with corrective eyewear, contact lenses and prescription medications.   Many progressive eye conditions will eventually need to be treated with eye surgery. In such cases, an optometrist will provide a referral to an eye surgeon and help manage their patient's pre- and postoperative care.
